Dance


 

Key Dance Information


All classes are free but costume fees do apply for ballet/jazz classes, tap classes and ballroom dance classes.

Students are expected to attend their dance class each week if they wish to be placed in routines and have the opportunity to perform at the end of year Dance and Glee Concert. Many groups will also have the chance to perform at other school and community events throughout the year.

The ballet/jazz and tap dance classes have limited places. Preference into these classes will be given to students who have been in the dance program in previous years. Parents/Guardians of students new to the school should speak to Jennifer Whiteoak.





Prep

Prep students can join Prep Dance when it starts in Term Two. The class is open for all Prep students to come along and try. Students will be asked to commit by the end of Term Two if they wish to perform in the end of year Dance and Glee concert at the theatre.



Junior School

The Sparkle and Ruby Dance Troupes are jazz and ballet classes for Junior School students. Students will learn two routines. There will be a costume fee of up to $50.00 for these classes. Girls require ballet shoes and boys require black jazz shoes.

 

A Junior School hip-hop class will be offered in Semester Two at a recess. This class will be open for the students to come along and try. Students will be asked to commit to attending every week later in the year if they wish to perform in the end of year Dance and Glee concert at the theatre. 

 

Glee C rehearse on a Wednesday at lunchtime. Students need to commit to attend weekly if they wish to perform. Costume fees may apply.

 

Middle School

The Star and Sapphire Dance Troupes are open to Middle School students. Jazz and ballet technique as well as routines are taught in these classes. Students are given the opportunity to perform at different school and community events as well as the end of year Dance Concert.  Girls in one of these classes need tan jazz shoes and matte tan tights. Boys need black jazz shoes. There will be a costume fee of up to $50.00 for these classes.

 

The Topaz Tap Troupe is a beginner - intermediate tap class which will focus on teaching basic tap technique. There will be a costume fee of up to $40.00. Girls require tan tap shoes and boys require black tap shoes.

 

Boys are invited to join the Boys Blue Crew. The class is open for the boys to come along and try. Students will be asked to commit to attending every week later in the year if they wish to perform in the end of year Dance and Glee concert at the theatre. 

 

Students in Grades Three to Five may audition for Glee B and students in Grades Four to Six may audition for Glee A. Usually around twelve students are selected for each group after a singing and dancing audition.



Senior School

The Diamond and Crystal Dance Troupes are for students in Grades Five and Six. Jazz and ballet technique as well as routines are taught in these classes. Students are given the opportunity to perform at different school and community events as well as the end of year Dance Concert.  Girls in one of these classes need tan jazz shoes and matte tan tights. Boys need black jazz shoes. There will be a costume fee of up to $50.00 for these classes.

 

The Emerald Tap Troupe is for more advanced tap students in Grades Five and Six. There will be a costume fee of up to $40.00.

 

Boys are invited to join the Boys Blue Crew. The class is open for the boys to come along and try. Students will be asked to commit to attending every week later in the year if they wish to perform in the end of year Dance and Glee concert at the theatre. 

 

Girls will be invited to join the Girls Gold Crew in Semester Two.

Dance Fair Choreographic Competition

Dance Fair is an interschool choreographic competitions and require students to choreograph their own dance routines. Two or three entries are permitted for each category. A ‘Dance Off’ will be run to select the students to represent the school when more students want to compete than we are permitted to enter into the competition. The competition is usually held in May (Possibly moved to July for 2021).  A meeting for expression of interest to compete is usually held in December for the following year and further meetings and rehearsal schedules are organised in February.
