Dance


 

Key Dance Information

 
The Dance and Glee Concert will be held at the Kel Watson Theatre on Wednesday 26th October, 2022. Students will walk to the theatre during the school day for a rehearsal. The concert will begin at 7:00pm. More information regarding the concert and tickets will be sent home in Term Four.


All classes are free but costume fees do apply for ballet/jazz classes, tap classes and ballroom dance classes.

Students are expected to attend their dance class each week if they wish to be placed in routines and have the opportunity to perform at the end of year Dance and Glee Concert. Many groups will also have the chance to perform at other school and community events throughout the year.

The ballet/jazz and tap dance classes have limited places. Preference into these classes will be given to students who have been in the dance program in previous years. Parents/Guardians of students new to the school should speak to Jennifer Whiteoak.





Prep

Prep students can join Prep Dance when it starts in Term Two. The class is open for all Prep students to come along and try. Students will be asked to commit by the end of Term Two if they wish to perform in the end of year Dance and Glee concert at the theatre.



Junior School

The Sparkle Dance Troupe is a beginner jazz and ballet classes for Junior School students. Students will learn two routines. There will be a costume fee of up to $50.00 for these classes. Girls require ballet shoes and boys require black jazz shoes.

 

The Onyx Dance Troupe will be running on a Thursday at recess. Students will learn jazz and hip-hop routines. These classes will be open for the students to come along and try at the start of Term One. Students will be asked to commit to attending every week later in Term One if they wish to perform in the end of year Dance and Glee concert at the theatre. 

 

 

Middle School

The Star Dance Troupe is an intermediate jazz and ballet class for Middle School students. Jazz and ballet technique as well as routines are taught in these classes. Students are given the opportunity to perform at different school and community events as well as the end of year Dance Concert.  Girls in one of these classes need tan jazz shoes and matte tan tights. Boys need black jazz shoes. There will be a costume fee of up to $50.00 for these classes.

 

The Topaz Tap Troupe is a beginner - intermediate tap class which will focus on teaching basic tap technique. There will be a costume fee of up to $40.00. Girls require tan tap shoes and boys require black tap shoes. This class will not be running until Semester Two in 2022.

 

Boys are invited to join the Boys Blue Crew on a Monday at recess. The class is open for the boys to come along and try. Students will be asked to commit to attending every week later in the year if they wish to perform in the end of year Dance and Glee concert at the theatre. 

 

Girls are invited to join the Girls Gold Crew on a Thursday at lunchtime (starts from Term Two). The class is open for the girls to come along and try. Students will learn a cheerleading routine as well as a hip-hop or jazz routine. Students will be asked to commit to attending every week later in the year if they wish to perform in the end of year Dance and Glee concert at the theatre. 

 



Senior School

The Diamond Dance Troupes is for students in Grades Five and Six. Jazz and ballet technique as well as routines are taught in these classes. Students are given the opportunity to perform at different school and community events as well as the end of year Dance Concert.  Girls in one of these classes need tan jazz shoes and matte tan tights. Boys need black jazz shoes. There will be a costume fee of up to $50.00 for these classes.

 

The Emerald Tap Troupe is for more advanced tap students in Grades Five and Six. There will be a costume fee of up to $40.00. This class will not be offered until Semester Two in 2022.

 

Boys are invited to join the Boys Blue Crew on a Monday recess. The class is open for the boys to come along and try. Students will be asked to commit to attending every week later in the year if they wish to perform in the end of year Dance and Glee concert at the theatre. 

 

 

Girls are invited to join the Girls Gold Crew on a Thursday at lunchtime (starts from Term Two). The class is open for the girls to come along and try. Students will learn a cheerleading routine as well as a jazz or hip-hop routine. Students will be asked to commit to attending every week later in the year if they wish to perform in the end of year Dance and Glee concert at the theatre. 

 

Students in Grades Five and Six may audition for the Sapphire Select Dance Troupe. This troupe will learn advanced jazz and lyrical routines. Auditions will be held at the start of Term One 2022. Approximately ten students will be selected for this special dance troupe that will rehearse on a Wednesday at lunchtime for Semester One. In Semester Two, students will rehearse the completed dance items at the start of lunchtime, each Wednesday, before Glee A starts their rehearsals.

 

Students in Grades Five and Six may audition for Glee A. Usually around twelve students are selected for each group after a singing and dancing audition. These auditions will take place at the start of Semester Two.



Dance Fair Choreographic Competition

Dance Fair is an interschool choreographic competition and requires students to choreograph their own dance routines. Two or three entries are permitted for each category. A ‘Dance Off’ will be run to select the students to represent the school when more students want to compete than we are permitted to enter into the competition. The competition is usually held in May.  A meeting for expression of interest to compete is usually held in December for the following year and further meetings and rehearsal schedules are organised in February.
