Our Philosophy Statement
We aim to educate the whole child.
Students are at the heart of everything we do.
The kindergarten will deliver a positive learning environment for all children. The kindergarten program will be guided by the Victorian Early Years Learning and Development Framework and is underpinned by the National Quality Framework.
Burwood Heights Primary School Kindergarten staff is committed to providing a quality educational program that is inclusive of all children. The most important goal is the wellbeing of the children. We believe that a fun environment is beneficial to learning, and to developing positive self-esteem and the fundamentals of life-skills.
We believe that every child is a unique individual and that children learn best through play and discovery and being actively involved in their learning. We aim to provide a happy, safe, and enriching environment which challenges and stimulates each child’s skills and abilities and extends each individual’s interests. Our play-based program encourages children to make independent choices and allows for individual development. The program reflects the needs of both the individual and the group and values each child’s background, culture, interests and strengths. Our program values our outdoor learning environment equally with the indoor environment.
We understand that each child’s learning journey will be unique. Children will learn in their own time and in their own way. Children are given opportunities to try new things, take risks, make mistakes, and be free to explore and experiment and to discover things that extend their knowledge. Children need the opportunity to develop life-skills which will prepare them for their future and their future learning. The development of children’s self-esteem, their resilience, confidence, respect for others, problem solving skills, independence and social skillsare paramount.
We endeavour to create a welcoming environment for all families where positive and supportive relationships are developed. We recognize and respect the diversity of our families, cultures, languages and traditions. We believe that parents are their children’s first and most significant teachers, and that it is vital to work in partnership with families to provide positive learning experiences for the children. We encourage parents to be involved in their child’s learning.
