Preparation is well underway for this year’s Colour Derby on Friday 13th December 2024. Participation is free for all students. Parents and guardians are invited to attend this whole school event. Along with festival food and other activities, the day will consist of two main parts: the Colour Run and the Billy Cart Derby.
The Colour Run is a fun run where students start out wearing white T-shirts and by the end of the course they are covered in colour. Staff and volunteers will be throwing the colour powder at the runners as they pass by.
White is a must! All students should come to school wearing at least a white t-shirt as the colour powder will show up better on white. It is recommended that students wear sunglasses to reduce the chances of colour powder getting into their eyes. Also, pack a towel for use afterwards.
The Billy Cart Derby will be set out on the Basketball Court. Considering it is relatively flat, billy carts will need to be pushed; therefore, participants will be racing with a partner. The race consists of two laps, where each participant will drive for one lap and push for one lap. Billy carts will be timed with only one team racing at a time. The same billy cart can be used by siblings; however, each participant must complete a separate Entry Form.
Prizes will be awarded based on the categories below:
Fastest Cart
Simply put, the quickest to complete two laps wins. There will be three age groups: Whippersnappers (Prep – Junior School), Rookies (Middle School) and Pro (Senior School). Both members of the team will need to be in the same age group.
Most Creative Cart
Be as creative as possible. This category is completely open to interpretation and is open to all billy carts- whether they race or not. Anything goes! Additionally, carts deemed unsuitable/too dangerous for racing can be entered into this category and the owner can still go home with a prize.
Most Recycled Cart
This category will be judged on the best use of recycled/second-hand materials. This is in the tradition of billy carts - making something “out of nothing”.
Registration is important to compete in the Billy Cart Race! Please return the Billy Cart Entry Form by Friday 29th November.
Festival food will be available to purchase. Students can buy popcorn, fairy floss and snow cones for $2 each. Beef sausages will be on sale for $3 each.
